Makassar, umi.ac.id – The world university ranking agency Webometrics Ranking of World Universities has just released a list of the best universities in the world, including Indonesian universities in 2021.
The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is initiated by the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group that is part of the Consejo Superior de InvestigacionesCientíficas (CSIC), the largest public research agency in Spain.
Conducted since 2004, this ranking aims to promote open access sciences promoted by universities. This year, there are approximately 31 thousand universities in more than 200 countries that are included in the ranking list.The ranking was released in January 2021.
This year, Universitas Muslim Indonesia Makassar has experienced a tremendous increase, previously in 2020 it was 108th ranking, and this year UMI is going up to 79th in the list of universities (States and private universities) in Indonesia. This ranking is the highest among the other private universities situated out of Java Island.
The indicators used in this year’s ranking are not different from the assessment indicators in the previous years. The ranking is calculated under four main indicators, presence rank, impact rank, openness rank, and excellence rank.
This website-based research is widely used as a reference by universities in the world to see how intensely people are accessing university websites for the needs of higher education services.
The Rector of UMI, Prof. Dr. H. Basri Modding, when contacted (30/1) said that the achievement was obtained because the commitment of the university’s staff that made 2020 as a year of innovation. The phrases was used as slogan in the 66th anniversary of the University last year. With various activities including the implementation of international halal conferences which have encouraged more than 300 participants to participate. The conference was part of the 66th Anniversary program.
Hopefully in 2021, UMI can increase its achievements by welcoming the 67th anniversary with the slogan “Best Achievement with Adaptation & Innovation” which will be launched on February 1, 2021, said Prof. Basri Modding.
