Profile & History of The Board of UMI Foundation
The Board of UMI Foundation or we call it ‘Yayasan Wakaf UMI’ (YW-UMI) is a body that collects a variety of activities; such as education, research, community service, business, health and social care. These activities are all based on Islamic principles. The ultimate goal is for the greatness of Islam that brought the values of benefit to humans and the surroundings.
In accordance with the deed of The Board of UMI Foundation number 43, dated 07 November 1994, Article 3 states that the Board of UMI Foundation is glorious and sacred pure heightens the degree and symbols of Islam, enhances and deepens knowledge of the World and the Hereafter and also enhances noble educational character for the benefit of society and the needs of the homeland, addressed to the glory of the Religion of Allah SWT, Islam.
All these efforts put emphasis on the development of Islamic Law (syariah) and culture. All results obtained by the Board of UMI Foundation, either alone or results of operations giving third parties an endowment for the advancement and development of Islam. Endowment (Waqf) itself means everything that belongs to the Waqf is the right of Allah and His Messenger, so that all those who participated both morally, material, time and mind, mostly pitted themselves to God by the rules established by Allah SWT and His Messenger. In the endowment (Waqf), there is no private property, class, or group.
The Board of UMI Foundation was established by community leaders, clergy and kings (government) in Sulawesi on February 8, 1953, and was named “The Board of UMI Foundation for Development of Universitas Muslim Indonesia” with high priority activity of the Foundation is preparing for the birth of an Islamic college. Alhamdulillah, pure and sincere intentions to fruition with the signing of the Charter of Incorporation of Universitas Muslim Indonesia, on June 23, 1954.
To provide legal certainty to the existence of the foundation, then the composition of the board of trustees authorized by the notary Richard Claproth with number 28, dated March 9, 1955, under the name “Yayasan Wakaf Universitas Muslim Indonesia”.
In the development and history of the foundation, occurred tidal stewardship and activities, and the name has undergone several changes. At its inception, “Yayasan Wakaf Pembangunan Universitas Muslim Indonesia”, then to “Yayasan Wakaf Universitas Muslim Indonesia”. It was changed again to “Yayasan Badan Wakaf Universitas Muslim Indonesia”, then changed again into “Yayasan Wakaf UMI” by deed of Notary Abdul Muis, SH, MH. No. 43 dated June 6, 2005.
Although it has been several times changed the name, but the name of waqf always maintained until today. It is intended to give an understanding to the community that this foundation is not owned by individuals or groups, but belong to society, so society (Muslim) have an obligation to maintain and develop this foundation as aspired by the founders.
The recipients of the mandate as Chairmen of The Board of UMI Foundation (YW-UMI) were, as follows:

- Prof. Dr. H. Mansyur Ramly, SE, MSi 2004 – 2005
- H. M. Mokhtar Noer Jaya, SE, Msi 2005 – present
At its inception, YW-UMI only concentrates in the areas of education and religious proselytizing (dakwah). However, since the 1990s, YW-UMI began building a new pillar, namely business and religious proselytizing (dakwah). Then, in June 2003, YW-UMI has complementary pillar through the management of health and religious proselytizing pillar, namely Ibn Sina Hospital.
The Board of UMI Foundation is currently fostering the charitable efforts of the three pillars, namely education & dakwah, Business & dakwah and Health & dakwah.
